Hi! I’m Sara and welcome to my little corner of the internet. I’m a wife and mother, raising four sons near Boise, Idaho. Most people know me as a professional cook, sharing recipes and food tutorials with my good friend Kate over at Our Best Bites. Together we’ve co-authored 3 bestselling cook books and created a wonderful community of online food-loving friends.
While my career is very food-focused, my educational background is actually in horticultural science. After growing up in the lush green suburbs of Seattle and spending my days surrounded in the beauty of the outdoors, I fell in love with garden design and plant science, and eventually earned a degree in it.
My husband and I met while in the horticulture program at BYU in Provo, UT. He went on to study medicine and I settled into a career in Landscape and Urban Design. I love to get my hands dirty. I worked my way through college laboring on landscape construction crews where I was almost always the only female. I learned how to operate heavy machinery, how to build a deck, how to lay pavers and mix concrete and use lots of power tools. It was the best preparation to start a career on the other side of the machinery, creating designs and helping clients build beautiful outdoor spaces.
I found that outdoor design principals mimic inside ones and I enjoying on creating a beautiful home as well, especially when I can bring the outside in and the inside out. I don’t think it matters how big or fancy your home is, or how large your bank account is, you can find and create beauty anywhere.
I’m a creative person at heart. I love learning new skills and trades and I enjoy teaching them just as much! I believe learning is something we should continue to do for our whole lives and I make an effort to take up new creative outlets, often. I’m a self-taught photographer, hand-letterer, floral designer, painter, and more. I hope to be able to show you how easy it is to do some of these things!
